Abstract

This article analyzes the role of interim naval intendants in the critical political context of late 18th-century Bahia, emphasizing their involvement in port control, colonial administration, and connections to the transatlantic slave trade. It investigates the management of resources such as zimbo (cowrie shells used as currency), the influence of Pombaline reforms, and conflicts between local elites and metropolitan authorities.
