Abstract

This article aims to analyze the relationships between music, experience, and violence in Bahia in the 20th century. Initially, the trajectory of Bahian serenaders during the process of urbanization and modernization of Salvador will be discussed, highlighting the police repression and social stigmas that marked their experiences. The article then examines the work of reggae singer and composer Edson Gomes as a representation of the urban and institutional violence experienced by the population of Bahia and Salvador, in the context of the transformation of violent crime in the state.
