Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and epidemiological profile and hospitalization outcome of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients in an emergency hospital in Goiânia-GO. Methods: Descriptive, observational, prospective study. Participants were patients who passed through the wards or clinics with a CKD diagnosis undergoing hemodialysis at the State Emergency Hospital of the Northwest Region of Goiânia. Collection performed using a structured form and monitoring during hospitalization. Results: 51 patients participated in the study, mean age 61 years. Mostly male (72.5%), mixed race (51%), married (56.9%), retired and / or beneficiaries (51%), illiterate (33.3%) and 64.7% were from other municipalities. Smokers (51%) and sedentary (90.2%) predominated. The main symptom was weakness (49%) and the clinical sign was anemia (41.2%). The main cause of hospitalization was dialysis urgency (52.9%), with a CKD diagnosis (78.4%) and the beginning of treatment (80.4%) during hospitalization. Only 17.6% were being followed up in the Basic Health Unit and the main comorbidity was Systemic Arterial Hypertension (76.5%). The average of length of hospital stay was 31 days and 64,7% had hospital discharge and referral for hemodialysis. Conclusion: These data are important to outline the profile of these patients and assist health professionals in planning emergency and primary care.
