Religião e educação: um breve relato do pensamento filosófico de Agostinho de Hipona

O presente artigo tece considerações acerca da compreensão de Agostinho sobre a relação entre educação e religião. Para isso, com base em algumas obras de Agostinho e alguns intérpretes de seu pensamento, busca-se verificar quais são suas concepções de homem, alma, conhecimento, intelecto, razão e de educação e como estas estão relacionadas ao seu modo de compreender a religião cristã e a sociedade. Esta análise também considerou importante refletir sobre o autor em relação ao seu tempo. Por fim, concluiu-se que a proposta educacional de Agostinho, ao se firmar na fé, no amor e na santidade, correspondia à tentativa de dar uma formação ética, como modo de dar resposta aos problemas sociais do período que sofria com as incertezas do declínio do Império Romano e invasões bárbaras. Uma reflexão que pode trazer elementos para pensar o debate atual sobre o Ensino Religioso.

Abstract

This article discusses Augustine's understanding of the relationship between education and religion. For this, based on some works of Augustine and some interpreters of his thought, he seeks to verify what are his conceptions of man, soul, knowledge, intellect, reason and education and how these are related to his way of understanding religion And society. This analysis also considered important to reflect on the author in relation to his time. Finally, it was concluded that the educational proposal of Augustine, by standing firm in faith, love and holiness, corresponded to the attempt to give an ethical formation, as a way of responding to the social problems of the period that suffered with the uncertainties of the Decline of the Roman Empire and barbarian invasions. A reflection that can bring elements to think the current debate on Religious Education.
