Abstract

This article is a brief re-reading of the mobilization of the Association of Mariners and Marine Corps of Brazil (AMFNB) and its developments in the Brazilian city of Rio Grande-RS, during the year 1964. In this sense, based on a process of approximation between sailors and dock workers in Rio Grande city, in a national context marked by intense social mobilization in a strained political scenario. Was analyzed the repression that struck the city of the Rio Grande under the radicalization of the sailors movement, in the context of the civil-military coup of 1964. The aim was to demonstrate the unfolding of the mobilization of these soldiers and the possible role of the AMFNB in ​​Rio Grande-RS, as well as the relationship between the leaders dock workers of the city and the members or supporters of the association in that context. Thus, the present work seeks to contribute to a better understanding of the scope of the sailors' movement, as well as the way in which repression was conducted in Rio Grande-RS, even at moments of consolidation of the coup.
