Journal Aim and Scope

The Revista de História da UEG (History Journal) is a publication of the UEG Graduate Program in History (PPGHIS), Morrinhos Campus, with continuous flow (ahead of print) publishing, with a new issue every six months (two editions per year). Our journal aims to publish dossiers, articles, reviews, notes, translations and interviews by professors and researchers of teaching and research institutions of regional, national, and international prestige in the field of History or related areas (Applied Human and Social Sciences), provided that they converge with a historiographical analysis of the sources and the use of concepts related to historical making.

The journal opens space for the publication of unpublished works in the various areas of History and related areas using different theories and methodologies. We use an anti-plagiarism application to identify the authenticity and originality of the texts submitted, ensuring that they have not been published elsewhere, even if partially. The journal has a free access system, and there is no charge for both publication and access to texts.

There is no minimum degree requirement for publication. From undergraduate to postdoctoral students, you can submit texts, and all texts are evaluated only for their quality. We perform a "double-blind" evaluation of the texts; that is, the texts are sent to the reviewers without any marks that identify their authorship; likewise, the evaluations are sent to the authors without the name of the reviewers. The reviewing process of a text can take from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the availability of reviewers for that thematic area (some areas are more difficult to find reviewers). Check out the text evaluation steps at the end of this section.

We have a continuous flow publication model; that is, once the text is approved for publication, it will be made available within 60 days on our website, and the author doesn't need to wait for the closing of an issue to have their text published. Our periodicity of editions is semiannual (semestral), with two issues published per year. The issues do not have sequential pagination; the texts are registered with a unique identification number (elocation-id) that can be used in its referencing.

Types of Published Texts

Scientific Article:  a publication with declared authorship presenting and discussing ideas, methods, techniques, processes, and results in the various areas of knowledge, concisely and with a specialized theme. It must present the methods of analysis of the sources and data of the research carried out and discuss them analytically and critically. They can be either free-themed articles or part of Dossiers, following the Call for Articles previously published on the Journal's homepage. It must have a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25 pages.

Thematic Dossier: a set of articles with a defined theme, according to the call published on the journal's homepage. They are evaluated by the dossier organizers and must comply with all the rules present on this page. They are published together at the beginning and middle of the year, according to a previously disclosed schedule. The organization of thematic dossiers is based on a call published on the journal's homepage and social media. We did not receive proposals for new dossiers within these deadlines.

Reviews: a type of text used to describe and analyze works and books. In the History Journal, we strive for the acceptance of Critical Reviews, that is, those in which the author presents a thesis on the topic addressed, therefore, a text of an informative-argumentative nature. The relevance of the Review will be defined by the quality of the text and originality of the analyzed work, regardless of the year of release. Previously reviewed work can be accepted if it brings new views and analysis about its content. It must be at least 05 and a maximum of 10 pages. We do not accept reviews with co-authors, it must have only one author.

Translations: translations of classic or recent articles available in international journals in a foreign language that have never been translated into Portuguese or published in Brazil may be accepted if they bring important and relevant analysis and information to the academia. The translated article must be sent with a statement from the original author of the text and the journal in which it was published authorizing the translation and publication in the UEG History Journal. It must follow the same standards for articles.

Interviews: interviews can be academic-related (with important and relevant personalities of a specific topic from the academia) or with the objective of producing a source for a specific study. The quality and contribution to the historical field of the transcribed text will be analyzed. They must be preceded by an introductory text bringing a brief biography and presentation of the interviewee, the date on which it was made, and the methodology used to carry out the interview.

Research Notes: a means to announce ongoing research and communicate the work in progress to the researchers' community. It is not a scientific article. This is an “extended abstract” (between 5 and 10 pages), which allows the scientific community to know the work in progress in a specific field, especially for Master's and Doctoral students. We do not accept Notes with co-authors, it must have only one author.

Historical Sources: this section is intended only for the publication of research sources (documents, files, photographs, etc.) that aim to assist other researchers in future research. The text must include a presentation by the author with a brief analysis of the source and its importance for historiography.

Rules for publishing texts (articles, reviews, notes, translations and interviews):

I - All texts must be submitted through the journal's system through the submission process available at the end of this page. We do not receive texts by email.

II - The texts may be published in Portuguese or Spanish; other languages may be published if the text for evaluation is initially submitted in Portuguese for evaluation. The text must be saved in Microsoft Word format, and the file must be named with a short title (e.g.: texto.doc or texto.docx). The system does not recognize long file names and returns an error to download.

III - The author's biographical data must only be inserted in the system with the name(s) of the author(s), last academic degree, institution affiliation, city, state, country, and e-mail address. The data must be omitted in the body of the text to guarantee the blind review process. The author's biography information will be added at the end of the reviewing process, at the time of publication, showing only the author's last title and current institutional affiliation, with any other information omitted. It is extremely important that the authors carefully check all information placed in the system at the time of submission, as these will be used to compose the author's biography inserted in the article at the time of publication. All authors must be inserted at the time of submission of the text - once the text goes to the reviewing stage or even after acceptance, inclusions of new authors will not be accepted under any circumstances.

IV - The author must make sure that the submitted text is original, unpublished, and has not been otherwise published in a repository with ISSN or ISBN registration (Journals, Event Annals, or Books), even if partially (the practice of self-plagiarism, which is the use of identical excerpts in different articles, should also be avoided). Texts from Doctorate Theses, Master’s, or Undergraduate Dissertations (TCCs) may be evaluated, provided their indication in a footnote. We suggest reading the CNPq Ethics Report for more details.

V – Articles, Translations, and Interviews must contain a maximum of 03 authors (01 author and 2 co-authors); Notes and Reviews must have only one author. Only people who made a significant contribution to the work deserve authorship in a manuscript, and Phantom Authorship should be avoided (p. 06, items 16 to 20). Supervision also does not constitute co-authorship

VI - Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools cannot be used in the production of texts that constitute co-authorship. The use of these tools should be limited to the revision and standardization of the text and duly reviewed by the authors. In addition, the use of AI at any stage of textual production or for other purposes (data collection, research methodology, etc.) must be indicated in the text, either in the methodological part or in a footnote. Remember that the authors have an ethical responsibility in relation to the submitted text.

VII - The text must have a length of, including references, at LEAST 15 and a MAXIMUM of 25 pages for ARTICLES and TRANSLATIONS; from 05 to 10 pages for NOTES and REVIEWS, and between 05 to 20 pages for INTERVIEWS and SOURCES. Texts that do not fit these limits will be automatically returned.

VIII - The texts must not contain elements such as cover, back cover, cover sheet, etc. The articles and translations must have a title in bold font and centralized, an abstract with a maximum of 15 lines, and a title in Portuguese, followed by keywords. It must also present the title, abstract, and keywords in English and Spanish. Keywords should be separated by full stops (.). Do not use an automatic translator. It is recommended that the proofreading and editing of the article and abstracts be passed on to specialized professionals. The texts of the sections Reviews, Notes, Interviews, and Sources do not require abstracts in a foreign language.

IX – Text must be in Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing, without spaces before and after paragraphs. Every beginning of a paragraph must have an indentation of 1.25cm. The bottom and top margins must be 2.5 cm; the left and right margins must be 3 cm (Word default). We recommend that the text should be divided into topics, necessarily containing "Introduction" or "Initial Considerations" and "Conclusion" or "Final Considerations." Topics such as "Methodology," "Materials and Methods," "Results and Discussion," or others specific to research projects should be avoided; topics should not be subdivided or numbered.

X - Citations with three lines or less must come in the body of the text in quotation marks; citations with four lines or more must come in a paragraph with an indentation of 4 cm, single spacing, font size 10, and no italics or quotation marks; citations in a foreign language must come translated into Portuguese in the body of the text, with the original quotation in a footnote; footnotes must be used only for additional information and clarification, never for references (do not use Endnotes or a manual system, always use the automatic Footnotes system from Word).

XI - The citation of references must come in the body of the text following the model (Author, year, p.), including Interviews, Oral Sources, Documents, and other types of Historical Sources (see the Citations and References section). The complete references must come at the end of the text, organized according to the following ABNT regulations: ABNT NBR 6023/2018 and ABNT NBR 10520/2023. The titles of the referenced works (only the title, not the subtitle) must always be highlighted in bold (do not use italics). In the case of book chapters or articles in journals, the title of the book or journal must be highlighted. Only works cited throughout the text must be referenced. Do not use idem, ibidem or op cit when the references are repeated.

XII - The figures (drawings, graphs, maps, schemes, photographs, and chromes) and legends must never exceed 12 cm x 16 cm and must be inserted in the body of the text. The titles must always come below the image and must be numbered (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.), followed by the source of the image. Do not use as a source "organized by the author" - this is not a source; a source is where the data shown was taken from (the same for tables and tables).

XIII - Only one article of the members of the Editorial Board will be allowed to be included in each issue of the Journal, which will be subject to the general rules of the Journal, except for reviews and notes.

XIV - Only one article per author will be evaluated; if the author submits more than one article at a time, only the first submission will be considered, and the second will be automatically returned. The participation of more than one contribution per author in each issue of the Journal is not allowed, and in consecutive issues, the author must wait for an edition to resubmit and publish. If the article has been rejected, the author must wait for six months to resubmit the text.

XV – Each issue of the journal may publish articles by authors linked to UEG up to the limit of 30% of the total articles and 50% for authors from the state of Goiás. The rest must be composed of authors from other educational institutions and other states of the Brazilian Federation.

Text Evaluation Steps:

These are the steps that a text goes through when submitted to the History Journal. Due to the high volume of submissions we receive daily and the small staff of our editorial team, submissions are queued and processed according to the availability of reviewers. Therefore, the evaluation process, from receiving the text to the final publication, passing through each of the following steps, takes at least 6 months and can last up to a maximum period of 1 year. Here are the steps:

  1. Anti-Plagiarism Inspection: All submitted texts initially undergo an anti-plagiarism program (Plagiarism®) to verify their authenticity and originality, ensuring that they have not been published anywhere else, in whole or in part. Only original and unpublished texts may continue in the evaluation process.
  2. Preliminary assessment: Once the originality of the text has been identified, the Editorial Team conducts an initial evaluation to ascertain whether it complies with all the requirements established in the Standards for Publication of Texts, both in relation to the form and standards of ABNT and the content, and it must be in accordance with the Focus and Scope of our journal. Only texts that fit all items can move on to the next step of the evaluation.
  3. Blind peer review: The texts are then sent to the reviewers’ members of the Scientific Council, dossier organizers (in the case of thematic dossiers), or Ad Hoc reviewers, according to the specialty of each one and the theme of the text. The reviewers have a period of up to 30 days to carry out this evaluation. However, this step may take longer, depending on the availability of the reviewers for that thematic area. The reviewers can issue 3 opinions on the text:
  4. a) Accepted- the article is sent to the next evaluation stage;
    b) Mandatory Corrections - the text is sent back to the author to make the adjustments requested in the opinion;
    c) Rejected - the text is returned to the author, and the submission is archived.

3.1. Evaluation by the Editorial Team: All texts are ultimately evaluated by the editorial team before acceptance is issued. In the case of texts with mandatory corrections, when returned with the corrections by the authors, it is evaluated by the Editorial Team to ascertain if the author was able to make all the necessary modifications and if the article is suitable for publication, according to the initial opinion of the Scientific Council. In case of disagreements in the evaluations carried out, the editorial board has the final say on the acceptance or refusal of the text.

  1. Layout and publication: Once it has fulfilled all the previous steps and has been accepted for publication, it is sent to be diagrammed and then published, a process that can take up to 60 days.

Submission of Thematic Dossiers

We receive proposals for Thematic Dossiers at the end of each semester (between October and December). Proposals must contain a defined and specific theme, but broad enough to address different types of productions.

The file must contain the following items:
1. title of the dossier;
2. abstract: it must be clear and objective, describing what types of texts are expected to compose the dossier, of a maximum of one page;
3. name of the organizers: a maximum of two organizers, both with a doctoral degree, current institutional affiliation, and email contact.

Proposals must be sent to the email revhist@ueg.br and will be evaluated by our Editorial Board, with a result within a maximum of 60 days. The viability of the proposal, the scope of the theme, the title and institutional affiliation of the organizers, and the prospects of capturing international texts will be considered.
