Abstract

The present work aims to discuss the aversion to the human body, to sexuality and to the sexual act. The latter, when not practiced for the purpose of reproduction, were regarded as negative consequences of the act of primary disobedience of Adam and Eve. Thus, we will analyze the contexts to which the pejorative character perpetuated itself, as some visions defended by the Fathers of the Church , presenting the Original Sin in the conception of Thomas Aquinas in his work Summa Theologiae (1273). When we examine the document, we situate it as an integral part of the dominant religious discourse of the central-medieval imagery, since they manifest contempt both to the female body and to the sexual act when practiced freely, considering them as paths leading to the removal of the divine presence.
