Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the influence of radiotherapy in the presence of pain and disability of the cervical spine and shoulder complex, presence of radiodermatitis and dysphagia, and possible associations between these and shoulder and cervical disorders. Basic procedures: Prospective observational cross-sectional study conducted from July 2019 to March 2020, with patients seen in a referral hospital in oncology, undergoing treatment for CCP. Sociodemographic questionnaires were applied to assess pain and disability of shoulder disorders and to assess cervical spine disability. Patients were evaluated on the first day of radiotherapy and reassessed in cycles of six sessions until the end of treatment. Results: Total of 14 participants, with a predominance of brown men over 45 years. All underwent radiotherapy, 42.8% exclusively and only 7.1% with neck dissection. The data did not show significant differences between the collection times for the evaluation questionnaires. Dysphagia had an incidence of 78.5%, radiodermatitis showed a 64.2% positive association with shoulder dysfunction (p = 0.05). Conclusion: Considering that the complications analyzed affect the QOL of patients, the physiotherapist becomes an indispensable professional for the kinetic-functional restoration of the patient undergoing cancer treatment for PCC.
