Abstract

Abstract: This article aims to analyze, considering discussions about the concept of indifference, the possibilities of mobilization of traumatic memories to combat indifference and to the construction of an ethic of otherness. At first, I discuss the concept of indifference. Following this, taking as an example a set of 12 interviews conducted using the Oral History methodology with Shoah survivors' children, I reflect on the initial problem of this research. I conclude that memories do not take a unique path and I verify the presence at the same time of narratives that perform this operation of combat against indifference, but also of several obstacles to the formation these memories, among which stand out the very trauma transmitted from parents to children. - Which hinders its elaboration - and the relationship between memory and identity, which presents itself as an obstacle to the constitution of memories turned in direction to the Other.
