TERRA EM TRANSE (1967): A MALDIÇÃO DO PODER NA REPÚBLICA DAS BANANAS
Abstract
The film “Terra em Transe”, by Glauber Rocha, made History in Brazilian Cinema. 62 years after its launch, the topics covered – State Terrorism and the witch-hunt, all in the name of God, the Fatherland and the Family – did not disappear with the redemocratization of the 1980s. Democracy, freedom of expression and social justice, values enshrined in the 1988 Constitution, along right and left governments, they stumble obstacles that threaten its effectiveness. In dark times, the work continues to reveal the cursed face of the false prophets, who in the name of morality and religion, refer to the liturgy of power, founded on the origins of colonization, in the name of preserving of eternal underdevelopment. The goal of this article is to identifying the sacredness of power that prevents any kind of historical movement.
