Aby Warburg and the Presence of the Antiquity

Abstract

The publication of Warburg’s texts in Brazil, started in 2013 with the translation of the collection organized by Gertrud Bing in 1932, enters a new stage of its development. The Presence of the Antiquity, a collection organized by Cássio Fernandes and published by Unicamp Publishing House in 2018, presents previously unpublished texts in Portuguese, which reveal important nuances of Warburg’s thought and the certain specificities in hist theoretical development. Based on the material published by Maurizio Ghelardi between 2004 and 2007, The Presence of Antiquity offers the Brazilian reader a set of documents that allows an effective deepening in the author’s work and thought, syntonizing the Brazilian production on the subject with the most recent international publications.

  • Serzenando Alves Vieira Neto, Universidade Estadual de Campinas
    Doutorando em História da Arte pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas, sob a orientação do Prof. Dr. Luiz Cesar Marques Filho. Tem se dedicado à história intelectual e historiografia da arte de língua alemã, especialmente do período que vai do inicío do segundo Reich aos anos da República de Weimar, com enfoque em autores como Aby Warburg e Ernst Cassirer.
