Abstract

On this paper we are focused primarily on the modernity, temporality associated to the Romanticism. We discussed about the opening of possibilities for the period just as the comprehension of the history itself and the redefinition of the language.  Our intention is to highlight significant points to the understanding of the tensions between the present, the past and the future that was especially important on the writers temporality and on the Romanticism works, mostly on Brazil at the XIX century. In a second phase of the paper, we discuss what should be the melancholic stmmung part of the Romanticism, in consideration of the writings of the Romanticism brazilian authors of the XIX century like Gonçalves Dias, Gonçalves de Magalhães and José de Alencar. Lastly, we focused the historiographical debate about the readings built by the historians about the Romanticism in Brazil, submitting two historiographic strands and its notes about the literary style.
