This text is the result of a dialogue between a historian and a mother of saint. The ancestry and spirituality in Umbanda were guided by the historian based on the traditional religion of the Bantu peoples of Central-West Africa, but the mother of saint discussed these matters based on her religious experience and her knowledge of Umbanda doctrine. As the reader will understand, the arguments of the mother of saint are tributaries of the exchange between African and Kardecist conceptions, which were at the origin of the codification process of Umbanda as a new religion at the beginning of the last century.
