Abstract

The present text aims to discuss the concept of madness, not only marked by medicine as mental illness, but also as part of a socio-political construction aimed at hygienization and social control. In this aspect, the focus is to think about how the military dictatorship maintained the asylum institutions and the practices of endless hospitalizations for its own benefit. I start from a bibliographical and theoretical discussion, but also with the use of sources such as Revista Goiana de Medicina and Revista Saúde em Debate in conjunction with discourse analysis by Michel Foucault.
