The parliamentary performance of communists in the early years of the Third Republic

Abstract

This article analyzes the performance of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCB) in the initial years of the Third Republic, in the period between 1945 and 1947, aiming to understand how the strategy of bourgeois democratic revolution and the tactic of national unity influenced the parliamentary performance of the Communists in the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Sul (ALERGS), especially in the elaboration of the state Constitution. Through a research in the Anais of ALERGS, we seek to highlight the main aspects of the participation and contributions of the PCB in the gaucho parliament, during the period of legal action.
