In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), individuals who need invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) are subject to the consequences of immobility. Early mobilization (EM) can minimize these negative effects. The objective was to evaluate the influence of MP on the mortality of patients admitted to the ICU. The sample consisted of 131 adult patients admitted to the ICU between 2013-2018. The volunteers were divided into two groups: The conventional physiotherapy group (CPG) and the Early Mobilization Group (EMG). Anthropometric data, diagnosis of admission to the ICU, duration, and parameters of IMV, cardiorespiratory monitoring parameters, physical therapy management, and patient evolution were analyzed. There was no difference in the period of IMV between the groups, the average number of days in spontaneous ventilation was higher in the EMG (p = 0.00), and the average length of stay in the CPG was shorter (p = 0.01). The CPG had the highest percentage of deaths. Logistic regression analysis showed that individuals who did not undergo EM had a greater chance of death (OR = 17.6; 95%CI: 6.59-47.15). The results of this study demonstrated that not performing the EM was a predictor of mortality in individuals who were on IMV.
