Abstract

Moringa oleifera is a species widely studied for its medicinal use, in the cosmetics industry and as an ornamental plant, being also used as a natural water flocculant in several countries, standing out for being a low cost technique and easy to apply. Water is an irreplaceable substance for all living beings and its preservation is essential and requires special attention from all health authorities, the use of sedimentation techniques being an alternative to the contaminated water process. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of Moringa oleifera seed in purifying water contaminated by pathogenic bacteria. The methods used were the microbiological analysis of water contaminated by strains of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. Thus, it was observed a reduction in the microbiological load of the water, where the best result was with the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, a fact that demonstrated the importance of the technique.
